Question:Will the size of the bird feeder effect which feeder the birds go to?
Hypothesis:Bigger bird feeders means more food, and it will attract more birds to it than the smaller one.
Research
I got two feeders, one bigger than the other, and filled both of them up with bird seeds.
I placed them behind my house, near a forest.
I expected lots of birds to eat the food, because there was a bird nest full of baby birds on my roof, near the bird feeder.
Every day, I measured how many seeds were gone from both feeders.
I noticed that nothing was missing, and I watched the birds to see why they weren't eating anything.
I saw my dog eat some of the fruit and then I started watching the garden a little more.
All the birds were attracted to the apple tree and blueberry bush, and they didn't seem to notice the bowls of food.
It makes sense. The garden is like an all you can eat buffet for the birds.
I scattered seeds around on the ground and kept my cat inside. I assumed that maybe Pasha, my cat, was scaring all the birds away.
A few birds came. Not many, just a couple of them.
Later, as it started getting colder out and the plants were dying, the birds finally stared eating from the bird feeders.
I noticed that the bigger bird feeder attracted more birds than the smaller one.
Conclusion:
Birds really like apple trees and blueberry bushes.
They will ignore your bird feeder.
They will shun the bird feeder.
If you for some reason want to attract birds to you, plant some fruit trees or bushes, or wait until winter, when not much is really growing, then put out bird feeders.
Other Conclusion:
From the very, very,VERY little information I got, the data seems to support my hypothesis.
Birds are attracted to bigger bird feeders.
Bigger bird feeders= more food.
More food= Survival/ Happiness
There were some differences in the bird feeders, other than one being bigger than the other, that could have affected the choice of the birds. Also the weather could have affected the birds. Some days were very rainy and cold, other days were hot and sunny. I also started the project a little late, because I couldn't find bird feeders.
I suggest that anyone who does this project in the future start earlier and choose two bird feeders that are similar.
